frequently asked questions

  • Q. Who is eligible for NDIS funding?

ou may be eligible for NDIS funding if you are under 65 when you apply, live in Australia and meet the required citizenship or residency conditions. You must also meet the NDIS disability requirements, early intervention requirements, or both. NDIS

Generally, this means you may qualify if you have a disability caused by a permanent impairment that significantly affects your ability to complete everyday activities, and you are likely to require disability specific supports over your lifetime. Eligibility may also apply where early intervention could improve your functional capacity, prevent it from declining or reduce the level of support you may need in the future. NDIS

Children may also be eligible for NDIS support. Children younger than 6 with developmental delay can potentially access the NDIS through the early intervention requirements, while children younger than 9 and their families can receive assistance through the NDIS early childhood approach. NDIS

If you already have an NDIS plan and need help understanding your funding, finding suitable supports or working towards your goals, Kirsty’s Support Services can work alongside you to help you get the most from your supports.

  • Q. What is a NDIS service provider?

An NDIS service provider is a person, business or organisation that delivers supports and services to NDIS participants. These services can help you with everyday activities, independence, community participation and working towards the goals in your NDIS plan.

Depending on your individual needs and funding, an NDIS service provider may assist with personal care, household tasks, transport, community access, supported independent living, Support Coordination and other disability supports.

At Kirsty’s Support Services, support is centred around you. We take the time to understand your goals, choices and individual needs so you can access appropriate supports and have greater choice and control over your everyday life.

  • Q. How long does NDIS support last for?

NDIS support does not have a single fixed timeframe. If you remain eligible for the NDIS, you can continue receiving funded disability supports, while your plan and funding may change as your needs, circumstances and goals change.

Your NDIS plan has its own funding period, and the NDIA may reassess your support needs when required. Some plans may also be varied or replaced when your circumstances change.

At Kirsty’s Support Services, we can help you understand your plan, coordinate your supports and work towards your goals throughout your NDIS journey.

  • Q. How do I find a NDIS-registered provider in NT or South West Victoria?

Finding the right NDIS registered provider in the Northern Territory or South West Victoria starts with considering the supports you need, your goals and the type of funding in your NDIS plan.

The official NDIS Provider Finder allows you to search by suburb or postcode and filter providers according to the type of registered support you require.

    Search the NDIS Provider Finder

If your funding is NDIA managed, you generally need to use registered NDIS providers. Participants with plan managed or self managed funding can usually choose between registered and unregistered providers, although some specialised supports must be delivered by registered providers.

At Kirsty’s Support Services, we believe choosing a provider should be about more than finding someone who delivers a particular service. Look for a provider who listens to you, understands your individual needs and can provide supports that help you work towards greater independence, choice and your personal goals.

  • Q. How do I apply for funding from the NDIS?

To apply for NDIS funding, your first step is usually to connect with a local NDIS partner. They can help you understand the eligibility requirements, gather supporting evidence and complete your application. You can also contact the NDIS directly on 1800 800 110

As part of your application, you will need to provide information about your identity, residency, disability and how your impairment affects your everyday life. Supporting evidence may include reports, assessments or information from your doctor, specialist or allied health professional.

Once your completed application and supporting evidence have been submitted, the NDIA will assess whether you meet the NDIS eligibility requirements. If you're approved, you can then begin the process of developing your NDIS plan and accessing funded supports.

At Kirsty’s Support Services, once you have an NDIS plan, our team can help you understand your supports, connect with appropriate services and work towards your individual goals.
